Twitch.tv clip manager12/14/2023 ![]() ![]() There MIGHT be only few options for streaming: to make it a part time or full time job as entertainer, or to get friends to play with or for them. If you aren't having fun, ask yourself what value there is in continuing - but chasing some dream of being a career gamer requires incredibly hard work, as well as incredible luck and all that is hugely magnified if you are trying to do variety streaming, and all of it is more difficult if you aren't at least a bit of an extrovert/ambivert who generally likes to talk and interact. If that happens, cool, at that point where I have a critical mass and real money, I could look at a career pivot and a focus on gaming. That grind to partner means you need to be absolutely best in class, and work at it constantly, and get lucky. Only 1% of streamers hit above 20 viewers average. So narrating my experience, shooting the shit, this all played really well into what I wanted, and is again, mutually beneficial if I'm averaging 10 viewers, or have just one or two or zero, or the couple times i've had hundreds. ![]() Prior to this, I did a travelling stream around my state streaming and running smash tourneys, and it turned out I did actually like doing commentary, in the worst way possible. and I really enjoy the technical aspects and equipment I have an excuse to play with. It's mutually beneficial, and I enjoy the community both that I'm in, and that is around me. I like the people, and I like getting to play this game I like in a way that prevents me from having to do a lot of work or suffer to find solid levels. I liked that community, so I kept doing it. After a while I realized it'd be fun to play mario maker and have people bring me stuff and there was a thriving community for this. I started so a friend could watch me play stuff during a pandemic. Is that your only goal? Get viewers? Is that the whole purpose of streaming for you? I'm not asking you to pay lip service and say "build a community" or some shit, I'm asking you to think realistically about your goal with streaming.
